Gold Wind

The highland wind
Shakes aspen leaves
And pine scent flows
Autumn air cleaves
Forest spirits
I hear them leave
Snow comes, they know
Winter, death's eve
Blazing in gold
Quiver, restive
Impatient root
When comes the reave
Not soon enough
Cold ease of sleep

Lake Life

mirror of the lake
serenity blurs focus
golden blue autumn

herons have journeyed
turtles and frogs begin dreams
beneath the frostline

the fishes stay deep
leaving water calm, glass smooth
schooling for ceilings

Change To Autumn

Change To Autumn

Against the bluebird sky
Golds and reds
Delight the eye
Clean winds quake
The aspens' leafy eyes

How lovely are those hues
When shortened
Are the day's blues
Longer nights
Tell the trees what to do

The people come to see
Flames of leaves
On each changed tree
Marvelous
Vivid, gorgeous queens

Tiberius
First over the Carthage wall
Rome's great hero
But to a mob did fall
Treachery
Or mortality will eclipse us all
Achievement
To nothing, the worms doth call
Yet strive to mark
Your history, build halls
Inspiring the next
Generation to stand tall

Personal Experience With Canned Oxygen Use For The Effects Of Wildfire Smoke

I noticed these oxygen cans at the local grocery store in the pharmacy department a month or two ago. Since the air quality has been degraded by wildfire smoke, I'd been suffering low level headache, bad fatigue, and brain fog.  I have noticed some relief since using it (along with Tiger Balm). They are a bit costly, around 17.00 a can this size, but since the smoke will be around for days, I felt it was worth the expense. It is 10 liters producing about 200 one-second inhalations. I am encouraging the family to use it as well. The label makes no claim of any ability to cure, treat or prevent any disease, it is sold as an athletic aid & is not medical grade. I did feel less crappy & a marked improvement in the brain fog, so if anyone else is suffering, I recommend it. Follow label directions & remember oxygen is flammable.

Prickly Rose Time

Reflect the light
Reflect each other
Double the scent
A thousand thorns
On the prickly roses
At peace back to back
It is their season
In the sun's heat
Welcome for the bees
Dancing upon the prairie wind

a darkness unrelenting

Springburst

Detritus pushed aside
Bulbs flaunt their hidden
Lifeblood
Arrayed for selection
Opened to the sun
Reflecting it back
Vital in their needs
To mix again
Increasing their force
Their number
Their presence

Talley

feet
soles
pavement
pavement, pavement, pavement
a day
all night
and a day
bearing the standard
in sorrow
for honor
of no greater love
than i have ever seen
I would be his valkyrie
on pavement
for all to see
that they would bear also
the hero
to
Valhalla
in their hearts
away from life
away from family
Love
which many still enjoy
because of his sacrifice

bear the standard
for his ideals
and their practice
in his agony
willingly chosen
shining drape
over mindless dark
one path oblivion
his path
Beacon
from now on
Unforgotten

©️Sylphide poem 2021

Inspired by the 24 hour long run undertaken by CU students and law enforcement personnel carrying both the American flag and the Thin Blue Line flag to honor Officer Eric Talley. He set the hero's example of rushing into danger to save people he never knew or will know now, because that was the duty he chose over a safer existence.

Hanging On

Hanging On

As Old Homicide starts to lose his grip
Fair sun is stealing more each day, gains ground
The grass greens and poseys start coming ' round
The ice and snow steady reduced to drips
Winter would cause one more stumble, a slip
Keeping you in his stiff frozen world bound
Covetous, with his dying breaths yet hound
Loathe to lose the taste of bluey cold lips
Though knowing his time from him is now ripped
His talent for hanging on does astound
When gentle warmth, Spring's victor prevails
There remains a few late frosts crystal-
dipped
Icicle dangerous daggers abound
Watching for the unwary to assail

New Season

New Season

Dance in the dells
Joy claims the feet
Winter is dispelled
Happiness is mete

Alive once more
Caressed in sun
Energized to the core
Begins now the fun

Birds singing for mates
At each new dawn
Spring keeping her date
The appearance of fawns

Butterflies awake
Box elder bugs flight
The ants' thirst is slaked
Bees on blossoms light

And we rise in song
That cannot be contained
The cold lasted so long
So glad we remained

Mom

I am
Beaming-Through-Clouds
So you may alpenglow
Be dispelled of
Coldmist wraiths

I am
Stable magick tree
So you may not dry in harsh sun
My hands open to you
With one thousand spring blossoms

I am
Warm water springs, cool snowmelt
So you may grow into chosen form
Be nurtured at your own pace
Among rainbows of steam and waterfall

I am
Beauty
Who loves your truth
All of it
Without condition💞

New Light

Newlight

Invert the hourglass
Same sand, different day
Gravity flowing
Warm your face
Advance your journey
Glow back
Embrace the joy
Because you still can
Even given light
To plan that track
Choose your own pace
All yours
Gifted again
And challenged
Carpe victoria!

Early Ones

Early Ones

The aconite
Beneath bare trees
Wake to the lengthening sun
Heralds of gladness
First feed the bees
Though winter is not done
Open to each other
Speak as they need
Seeds started, more than one
It matters not
More snows received
The flowers have had their fun
Spring on its way
Winter's grip unseized
The Ice Queen's on the run

Ode To Courage

NO I WON'T SHOOT INTO THE CROWD

The red-faced man screams his order
He is not my superior
He is the boss
The authority
The one I've always jumped for
I know beyond doubt he's wrong
I will not be wrong
I am agonized
But I will suffer anything but
The silence of a stranger's death
They defy authority
It won't be answered
With murder
By me

By God!

Beseiged

The gargoyle spouted molten lead
A last ditch defense of home
Attackers' screams echoed instead
Of the gentle birdsong we'd known

Greed and lust tore the world that day
Burned the crops almost ripe
Old Scratch laughed to have his way
Death dirges instead of highlander's pipes

The womenfolk held off the raiders
Those alive limped away quick
Our defeat lay in the fields beyond
The battle fallen, burned out wicks

The next enemy, fought every year
Harsh winter, old Homicide
Takes no quarter, mindless to icy tears
Unprepared now, woe betides

The babes at the breast must survive
The fires of homes will stay lit
Each innocent a victory kept alive
The vile dark staved off, we'll not quit

Lenten Rose

mauve lenten rose blooms
catalysing a new spring
last snows unheeded
